I.M. Pei, one of the most celebrated and prolific architects of the 20th century, has died aged 102. The son of a prominent Chinese banker, he favoured stone, steel and glass in his creations that bore his hallmark geometry and reverence for light.

I remember visiting the German History Museum in Berlin in 2012 and being transported by some force of nature in the freshly built and seemingly modest work by I.M. Pei.
